On affected vehicles, the cockpit wiring harness was fixed very close to a screw connection on the interior microfilter housing cover. The microfilter of the air conditioning system will be regularly replaced as part of the oil service. It cannot be ruled out that cables may be damaged when replacing the microfilter during a workshop visit. The filter cover has to be removed from the lower part of the I-panel. After replacing the filter, it has to be refitted. If the wiring harness is damaged this could lead to malfunctions of the air conditioning system as well as to a short circuit. In case of a short circuit, a sensor may overheat while the vehicle is in operation. As a result, smoke may develop from the instrument panel and, subsequently, a fire cannot be ruled out. On affected vehicles the cockpit wiring harness will be checked, repaired if necessary and reattached.

In case of faulty signals of the torque sensor, the software might lead to unintentional steering movement of the vehicle. If the failure of one channel of the sensor is not correctly detected (no switchover to the second sensor-channel) due to software weakness, an unintentional steering movement of the vehicle cannot be ruled out. If a failure of the software is detected by the steering gear system correctly, the driver is alerted by a check control message "Limited steering assistance", a minimal change in steering feel (slightly increased steering forces) while driving and limited steering support in standstill. On December 04, 2025, BMW decided to initiate the safety recall “Steering” with regard to certain G45 vehicles. On affected vehicles the control unit (steering) will be programmed.

As already known, several safety recalls worldwide have been decided as of 2016. On October 24, 2025, BMW decided to initiate a safety recall with regard to vehicles, which might be equipped with PSDI-4, PSDI-5 and SDI Takata driver front airbag inflator due to a steering wheel swap. These vehicles were originally manufactured with a steering wheel including a driver front airbag module without ammonium nitrate (from another supplier). Therefore, they were/are not covered by already released safety recalls. In addition, F45 vehicles equipped with SDI inflator have been identified that were not covered by the previous recall to replace the driver airbag module. According to the decision on November 13, 2025, BMW strongly recommends an immediate replacement of the airbag module before continuing to use the vehicle regarding the campaign 0032780300 “Replace Driver Front Airbag, F45 (SDI)”. Furthermore, with regard to the campaign 0032800300 (PSDI-4) an immediate check and - in case of a steering wheel swap – prompt replacement will be strongly recommended before continuing to use the vehicle against the background of the higher risk of possible bursting of these gas generator due to higher vehicle age.

The torsion bar twists as it is loaded, allowing the webbing to unwind in a controlled manner, enabling a more controlled downward movement of the occupant's upper body. During sub-supplier’s production process, the torsion bars of the front seat belt retractors of affected vehicles were mechanically damaged due to a maintenance intervention. The torsion bars are manufactured in an automated process. During the maintenance process, a conveyor system was set incorrectly. The air conveyor nozzle was switched off and a loose guide plate was not detected. As a result of this incorrect setting, torsion bars could become stuck in the device and damaged.

During the production process the affected modules were constructed with a double cathode layer or a misalignment of the layers. In case of a double layer cathode sheet and a misalignment, the lithium is plated or accumulated at the edge of the anode sheet. As a result, lithium dendrites could electrically connect the cathode and the anode or the anode tab without any separator damage. With misalignment (overhang ≤0.1mm), the lithium is plated along the edge of the anode sheet. As a result, lithium coating could electrically connect the cathode and the anode without any separator damage. If the cell module has not been produced according to specification this may result in a short circuit between cathode and anode. In the worst case this short circuit may lead to a thermal propagation of the module resulting in a vehicle fire. On affected vehicles the affected cell module of the HV-battery will be replaced.

The fault relates to the welding of the hollow shaft of the servomotor. Brake pressure is built up and brake force assistance are provided by an integrated electric servomotor. The hollow shaft of the servomotor was not welded according to specification, resulting in a lack of connection (gap) between bearing bush and hollow shaft. Therefore, the bearing bush is not properly fixed. During the subsupplier's production process, an incorrect calibration of the welding system was carried out, resulting in a permanent offset of 0.2 mm of the position axis for laser welding. In addition, a random presence of welding spatter during the reference measurement can result in an incorrect position of the hollow shaft being measured and the bearing bush being positioned accordingly incorrectly. If this welding spatter is >0.05mm and with a deviation explained above at the same time, this would be out of tolerance. In very rare cases, the weld cannot withstand and breaks if a high brake pressure is suddenly built up. If this occurs, the system switches into emergency mode. In emergency mode, the hydraulic pressure on the front axle is built up through foot respectively pedal force only. The rear axle brake circuit fails. The braking effect on the rear axle is built up and regulated electromechanically by electric parking brake actuators. Therefore, it is necessary to brake more forcefully, which extends the braking distance. Support from antilock braking systems (ABS) and dynamic stability control (DSC) is not provided. On September 11, 2024, BMW decided to initiate the safety recall “Servomotor Brake Booster (Hydraulic)” regarding BMW models F9x G0x G18 G6x G70 U06 U1x and MINI models F66, J0x and U25. The screw connection might not withstand the shear forces in case of a rear end impact under extremely unfavorable conditions (direct impact on lashing rail), which in turn might lead to the screws failing. After receiving feedback from dealers performing the rework, the screw connections were reviewed and it was found, that due to tolerances on individual vehicles the reworked screw connection might not be sufficient. Cause is that the replacement bolts might not be long enough in combination with the additional washers. The risks remain unchanged from the original recall. If the screws securing the lashing rails in the luggage compartment fail (shear of), the lashing rail might not crumple as designed. Instead, the rail might remain intact and even penetrate the backseat back rest depending on the impact (only under extremely unfavorable conditions). Under these circumstances serious injuries to backseat occupants cannot be excluded. Statutory rear crash tests cover around 98% of all accidents. BMW fully complies with these regulations. The described risk lies within the remaining 2% and are extremely unlikely. On October 9th, 2024, BMW decided to initiate the safety recall “Replace screw connection lashing rail0051070600 G01 F97” for vehicles already reworked within the scope of Technical Campaign “Rework Lashing Rail” 0051960500. On affected vehicles the screw connections will be reworked with newer, longer bolts. The special washers can be reused.
